Inspired by the death / killing of Mahsa Amini - she died after arrest by Iran's morality police, for allegedly violating the hijab law. The hijab law dictates what women wear (a hijab) and how it should be worn. Mahsa Amini died after being severely beaten and died in hospital 3 days later, under police custody. On the day of Mahsa Amini's death (16th of September 2022) mass protests swept Iran. These protests were in opposition to the oppressive government regime - the Islamic republic of Iran. On the 19th of December 2022 there were strategic anti regime protests. Large amounts of protesters were women and school children, demanding for increased rights for women and to overthrow the Islamic republic. Protests occurred in cities and rural areas and working and middle class people were both active and involved.

Arrests: 19,000+
Deaths of civilians: 517+ (70 of whom were under the age of 18 years old)
Executions: number unknown, the united nations reports that Iran is carrying out executions at an alarming rate post protests in 2022
